The Mayo Women's Support Services provides a service for women and children experiencing domestic violence. The service began ten years ago when through visiting people in their homes; the Castlebar Conference met many women and children who felt frightened, powerless and alone because of domestic violence. Many of them had no one to turn to, no support services and no information.

On a site donated by the parish they built the refuge and a further two self contained emergency units. They run information and support services for the women who come for help.
