Croí na Gaillimhe Resource Centre
Society of St Vincent de Paul, 1 Mill Street, Galway
Croí na Gaillimhe Resource Centre provides an intergenerational place of welcome especially for disadvantage groups, offering a range of holistic educational and social supports complementing current provision in Galway City and County.
The key areas of work recognised as priorities for the Resource Centre are older people, disadvantaged youth and adults.
What we do
Social Club for Older people - We have Social, educational and informational programmes operating in the centre for older people. The key aim is to reduce loneliness and isolation for older people and encourage more involvement in the community, self-reliance, social, educational, physical activity and fun.
- Social and Entertainment – (Outings, card games and quizzes)
- Art and Crafts – Art Classes, Drawing, Crochet/Cross Stitch/Chicken Scratch and Quilting.
- Exercises – Movement and Relaxation, Line and Ballroom Dancing and Boccia.
- Knitting Club
- Creative Writing Group
- Intergenerational Programme of Learning
Younger people- Croi na Gaillimhe Resource Centre includes disadvantaged youths in our programmes of activities. A key need was to develop interventions that would break the cycle of poverty through supporting full participation in education. Here we provide additional tuition to disadvantaged students from local primary and secondary schools. Students benefit from extra tuition at affordable rates.
We value intergenerational projects and learning, creating the opportunity for the older and younger generation to get together and appreciate each other.
Adult - We emphasise the importance of providing such programmes across a range of groups including Travellers, older people, migrants and refugees thus ensuring that integration of all sectors of the community takes place.
- Computers (Basic, Improvers and Intermediate).
- Training for Transformation
