What we do

Twinning

Farming in Zambia

Twinning is where SVP Councils and Conferences in more affluent countries reach out to help other Vincentians in less well-off countries with their work.

The Society in Ireland is linked with 13 English speaking countries in sub-Saharan African.

Links are formed between SVP Conferences in the Irish Region and Conferences in the twinned African country. Central to these links is an exchange of correspondence so that each party can come to an appreciation of each other's situation and the challenges each one faces. As a result a relationship of mutual support is built up. This relationship also has an important spiritual dimension as Conferences are encouraged to pray for each other's intentions. Twinning also enables many self-help schemes to get going at relatively little operating costs and has given the Society the opportunity to respond quickly to disasters and famines, as well as initiate more long term development work.
