Pat Calnan has received a Cork Person of the Month award, to mark her decades of voluntary service for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
Pat started her work for homeless men, at the old Merchant’s Quay hostel, where she prepared hot suppers for the residents. Later she moved to Deerpark House, Friars Walk which is a residential development for homeless men. She project-led the expansion of Deerpark House from a twenty bed unit to a fifty one bed state of the art complex, and continues to volunteer at Deerpark today.
“As well as her achievements with St. Vincent de Paul, this award also marks Pat’s other voluntary work over the years, such as Sea Scouts, Adult Education, Citizen Information Centre, Lavanagh Centre, Traveller Children and Parish work” said awards organiser Manus O’Callaghan.
Pat Calnan from Ballintemple is married to Fred for fifty four years, has six children and many grandchildren. Her name now goes forward with the other monthly winners from this year, for possible selection as Cork Person of the Year, at a Gala Awards Lunch at year’s end.
