Well known celebrities from the entertainment, business and sports worlds are coming together to pledge their support for the upcoming Spring Clean for Charity Event, which takes place in the City Hall on Saturday 24th September 2011, in aid of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.
Celia Holman Lee, Bill Cullen, Jackie Lavin and Lorraine Keane joined Norma Smurfit in Cork recently for the launch of this fantastic fundraising event, which is the first of its kind in Cork. Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr. Terry Shanahan also joined the festivities as the sun shone over the banks of the Lee.
Roy Keane is the latest celebrity to lend his support and has pledged to attend the event, which aims to raise well-needed funds for the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. Celebrity chefs Rachel Allen and Clodagh McKenna have also come on board and are donating items to the sale, as is Cork opera sensation Cara O’Sullivan.
In addition to the well-known celebrities and business people getting involved, the general public, as well as various groups and associations are being asked to take a look around their homes, offices, attics and garages, and clear out belongings that are no longer used; items that could be sold to raise money for St. Vincent de Paul, Cork and disadvantaged youth in Ireland.
Speaking about Spring Clean for Charity 2011, Norma stated “The response we have already received has been amazing, but not surprising. So many people have pledged their support, and we have some really great items up for grabs including two original jackets belonging to the late Rory Gallagher, as well as Clodagh McKenna’s famous red apron! We want as many groups, organisations and individuals to join us, take stalls and do something really positive for the Cork community and that’s what it’s all about.”
The sale will feature stalls manned by SVP volunteers, the public and celebrities with toys, bric-a-brac, furniture, tools, hobby items, crafts, trinkets and fashion from all over the country. The SVP will provide delivery vans on the day for any large items of furniture, which needs to be delivered.
You could take a stall on the day with your friends, family or work colleagues and make it a really fun day out. You could also volunteer a few hours of your time to help set up, man or take down stalls. Enjoy a spot of bargain hunting and celebrity spotting all under the one roof!
Musicians will fill the City Hall with music and food and refreshments will also be available. A car has also been kindly donated to Norma Smurfit and it will be raffled on the day.
There is no charge to take a stall on the day but all proceeds must go to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Cork and disadvantaged youth in Ireland. Doors will be open to the public from 11am - 5pm on the Saturday 24th September. Admission is €5.00 per adult with children under 12 free of charge.
