03/11/2011

St Vincent de Paul volunteers set up a stand in St Stephen’s Green as part of the ‘European Year of the Volunteer 2011’ to raise awareness of the organisation’s work and recruit volunteers.

SVP’s ‘What We Do’ public information initiative received a warm response when it took place in the city centre park in October. Three dedicated volunteers from SVP - Henry Cahill, Debbie Stone and Dan O’Donnell - joined about 40 other groups from around the country for the event, which was organised by Volunteering Ireland.

According to Henry their objective on the day was to spread the word about the charity and attract people who would like to participate in its work.

“It was a great success and we spoke to a lot of very interested and very good people who would like to volunteer with us. It’s very important to keep the flag flying and continue to attract volunteers,” he said.
