24/06/2011

On behalf of all volunteers and staff of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, we would like to sincerely thank all of those who participated and supported us in the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon this year. There was a great atmosphere around the streets of Dublin and the weather didn’t dampen the participants’ spirits!

A special thank you to our top online fundraiser, Ms Orla Keane from Dublin 9, who raised €890 for the SVP National Fund.

It was Orla’s first time in the mini-marathon completing the event in the very respectable time of 68 minutes. Our special thanks also goes to the Wineport Lodge Hotel in Athlone who provided a Mid-Week VIP Experience as a treat to give to the person who raised the most money.

Thanks again to everyone who took part. All the monies raised will be used in the vital work and support we are providing in these challenging times.

In 2010, the calls for assistance that we received have increased between 35% - 50% around the country on 2009 and with a hard budget for 2011, the numbers of people calling us for help is only increasing. Currently 25% of all calls for help have never asked SVP for help before. At present, the Society of St Vincent de Paul is spending in excess of €1m on average per week. Thankfully the support and goodwill from the public is increasing accordingly.
