A personal message from Mick Garry

I am attempting to run my first ever marathon this year on the 13th May 2012 to raise funds for the Michael Garry House for the Homeless in Newbridge. Please give what you can to support this worthy cause and read a bit about the homeless shelter below. The shelter is named after my Dad, and my fundraising efforts are dedicated to his memory.

Michael Garry House for the Homeless is a 14 bed short-stay Night- Shelter for those requiring emergency accomodation in County Kildare.

Established in 1997, Michael Garry House is run by St. Christopher’s Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

My Dad, Michael, was the driving force and the founder President of St. Christopher's Conference. Without his hard work and dedication, it is very possible that the Hostel may not have come to fruition. He died in 1996, shortly after signing the transfer documents for the premises that became the original Hostel for Homeless people, which opened in Newbridge in December 1997.

Michael Garry House aims to maintain the dignity of people by providing a warm and welcoming place to stay and through supporting them in finding and maintaining appropriate long-term accomodation.

Accommodation is provided on a nightly basis, every night of the year. The House also provides full meals, laundry facilities and support, medical and referral services where appropriate.

Michael Garry House is funded through the Dept. of the Environment and Kildare Co. Council. There is a shortfall in funding of approximately €60k per year, which is made up from voluntary contributions by local groups and individuals and through their own annual fundraising efforts. All administration is undertaken on a voluntary basis, so all funds raised go directly to the provision of services.

Spread the word! tell everyone about this event!
