Volunteering

What's involved in Volunteering for the SVP?

The SVP is involved in a wide variety of works in support of those in need. Click here for more details about the work we do in Home Visitation, Homeless Shelters, Charity Shops, Educational Projects, Hospital and Prision Visits. Volunteers generally give a couple of hours a week to their work. For Home Visitation Conferences this would normally be in the evening time. Read some testimonals from our volunteers here.

How do I become a member?

Contact your Regional Office who will send you the relevant Application Forms and explain what you need to send in to us to become a member fo the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. See the full details of the SVP application process here. The Regional Office will also be able to give you details of the next New Volunteer Training Class in your local area. Find the contact details for your local SVP office by clicking here. For Frequently asked questions about joining click here.

What training do I get?

Volunteering with the SVP is an important role and in order to support New Volunteers we provide comprehensive training before you begin your role. The Training will give you an insight into how the Society was formed and explain our values, mission and goals. We will examine poverty in Ireland today, how it presents itself and what our response is. We also look at the skills involved in visiting and supporting those in need in our communities.
