Croí na Gaillimhe Resource Centre, Society of St Vincent de Paul, 1 Mill Street, Galway were shortlisted for the local AIB Branch and are now through to the voting phase of the AIB Better Ireland Programme which takes place from the 15th February to the 15th March 2010.
The project they were shortlisted for is a collaborative initiative with The National University of Ireland Galway.
Croi na Gaillimhe Resource Centre, Society of St Vincent de Paul proposes to support vulnerable children through the implementation of an Intergenerational Programme of learning. This programme will target specifically children from socio-economic disadvantaged backgrounds and retired older adults. The National University of Ireland Galway has agreed to outreach “Living Scenes Model” of intergenerational learning and will provide facilitator training, monitoring and ongoing evaluation and support for this programme in Croi na Gaillimhe Resource Centre. Detailed University Research carried out on the “Living Scenes Programmes” over the last ten years clearly indicates the powerful and positive impact of Intergenerational Learning on the lives of the children involved.
