Three new Conferences of the SVP, the local parish unit, have been opened in the South-East Region and more are planned.
The South-East Regional President, Kieran Stafford, said that family visitation is the core of the work of Society of St.Vincent de Paul volunteers, with the aim of giving support, encouragement and guidance to problems being encountered in the present difficult economic times.
"We want to ensure that families have sufficient heat, light and food and are able to continue to maintain their children in school as well as to deal with the many other problems being faced," he said.
The Society nationally is coming under more pressure of work as calls for help increase, reflecting the current economic difficulties. This is placing more demand on SVP volunteers engaged in home visitation.
