The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVP) has published its short guide to social welfare rates and its response to Budget 2010.
SVP acknowledges that this budget was made in very difficult times and that the Government took some decisions to protect the most vulnerable in society. However, there is an alarming reduction in the real income of many thousands of families and individuals who are dependent on social welfare payments and supports. Furthermore there is deep concern in the SVP for people who are working on low wages or who are self-employed.
The SVP has called on all its conferences to find and assist those people who are struggling during this recession. For those of you who work with pre-school children we enclose information about the new part time pre-school place and give all city and county childcare committees’ contact details which will have further information.
