The National President of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Ireland has warned that there is an increasing danger of child poverty.
Mairead Bushnell has said that information from the Central Statistics Office shows that one-person-in-seven is now in danger of poverty and that there is an increasing danger of child poverty.
"We know from the wealth of experience of our volunteers, that this is not always visible, particularly with those who would be considered the 'new poor'.”
The National President has told the Society's volunteers throughout the country to watch out for signs of child poverty amidst all the problems they are seeing.
She has pledged that SVP members will continue to heighten their awareness of the plight of those in need and will increase its presence and willingness to respond to those in need in every parish in Ireland.
