The Society of St.Vincent de Paul in Navan in County Meath is to re-commence special visitation of hospitals and the elderly in the town, thanks to an increase of people prepared to volunteer their time to the work of the SVP.
Elderly people have been looked after by other SVP Conference arrangements, but the St. Camillus Conference of the Society will have a special role in this regard.
The Conference lapsed some time ago after many years of operation, when there were not enough volunteers to keep it going. Now it has been re-inaugurated with 10 new members, seven women and three men. All of them recently joined the Society of St.Vincent de Paul. The Conference President is Jackie Weldon.
Catherine O’Connor, Navan Area Council President, is delighted at the renewal and reinforcement of this type of work by the Society in the town, for which she says there is a growing need. She said the revived Conference will also continue the tradition of their predecessors of visiting St. Joseph’s Hospital in Trim.
