The Society of St. Vincent de Paul wishes to thank all those who have generously contributed to the flood relief appeal over the last number of weeks. A total  of just over €750,000 was received in contributions to the flood funds set up in a number of regions. This is in addition to the huge amount of goods and clothing which was so generously provided to the flood areas by members of the public.

The SVP Flood Relief Funds has, and continues, to be used to help those who have had their homes and livelihoods damaged or destroyed by the floods.. The Funds will also be used in the New Year to help people who were displaced by the floods move back into their homes.

SVP volunteers are working tirelessly in association with other agencies to assess the needs of those effected. The agencies’ co-operation ensures that all funds are distributed in as speedy and equitable a manner as possible. Where possible or when requested all donations are being acknowledged.

The Society’s National President, Mairead Bushnell said, “The generosity of people making donations has been tremendous. The scale of contributions reflects the level of care and support Irish people are willing to bestow on those in dire need. We warmly thank everyone for the great assistance they have provided at such a harsh time for the people effected by the floods.

“I also extend my thanks and appreciation to the staff and volunteers in the SVP who have put so much work into ensuring that the help and support required was provided”.

The SVP capacity to handle goods and clothing is now at its limit and the Society will make a further appeal if it becomes necessary to seek additional supplies.
