Our Policies to help achieve Social Justice

Justice

The work and experience of SVP members often highlight problems whose root causes are to do with injustices in Irish society. The experience of our members and services provide us with great credibility with which to seek real change for people suffering disadvantage in terms of the following areas:

Living on an adequate income

SVP believes that poverty is not inevitable and that there are ways to ensure that policies can be implemented to tackle income poverty. This includes issues to do with Child and family poverty, fuel and energy poverty and the cost of food.

Access to services

People in need often struggle to get access to the services that most of us take for granted. Services affecting those we assist include Education, housing and homeless services, health, financial services and domestic waste among others.

Communities, People, Relationships

This area comprises of issues such as active citizenship, local government, rural issues, and groups such as lone parents, older people and migrants. Isolation and loneliness is a growing problem for many we assist.

Government Strategies

SVP feeds into the development of Government Policy, and responds to Government on how these policies are progressing. This includes various National initiatives such as the Action Plan for Social Inclusion, and economic and social issues such as tax and the welfare state.
