Family Visitation the Core
Visitation is the core work in the South-East Region at present and the Regional Council is supporing all Conferences with encouragement, guidance and finance, to ensure that families have sufficient heat, light and food and are able to continue to maintain their children in school.
Hostel
The Region is seeking funding from the Department of Environment for the relocation of the Lady Lane Hostel in Waterford. This is a matter high on ther Regional work agenda.
Holidays
The Carne Holiday Centre closed in April of last year as a centre employing full-time staff. The Wexford Area Council has been carrying out trials under a self-catering basis with a number of groups and these have been successful. The Centre will be run entirely by volunteers to keep the cost base at a minimum. Interested groups are being invited to visit the Centre and consider the possibility of using it this year.
From the Regional President, Kieran Stafford:
Three new Conferences were opened last year and we have a target to identify gaps in areas served and a target of introducing three new Visitation Conferences this year. One area has expressed an interest in setting-up a Hospital Conference which is being encouraged.
