Two New Conferences for South-East SVP

Back to Listing

As part of the objectives for the year the SVP South-East Region has decided to develop our services to people in need and to target areas without Conferences.

Two new Conferences have been established in both Tinahely Co Wicklow and Piercestown Co Wexford.  There are three parishes belonging to the Ferns Diocese situated in South Co Wicklow and remain part of the SVP South East Region.

The new Conference in Tinahely was established in March of this year and training was delivered by our Regional Trainer Monica Hillary.  Since the establishment of the Tinahely Conference they have embarked on opening a shop in the main street and to date are very successfully.  Conference President Eileen Flanigan has stated they want to serve the people of the community of Tinahely and its surrounds and they are very mindful of serving the full community.  Tinahely has a large Church of Ireland community and representation from both communities have pulled together to serve the community as one with in the Conference.  We wish them every success and we congratulate them for their enthusiasm and progress in such a short time.

The second Conference to be established was in Piercestown Co Wexford in April.  The Conference is now up and running and will serve a very large parish that is in need of support.  Monica Hillary has delivered a number of training sessions and the Conference has the added advantage of having a new President Mick Quinn who was formally a member in the Dublin Region.  The Piercestown conference is made up of all new members from the area and we wish the Piercestown Conference every blessing in their new role as Vincentians serving in their community.

The region will continue to explore the need for new Conferences in different areas. Next to be targeted are Butlerstown Co Waterford and Cloheen Co Tipperary.  If you see the need of new conferences in an area that is currently not covered by SVP please inform David O Neill.
