NUI Galway Xmas Pyjamas/jumper Fundraiser

Recently the final year BComm HR students at NUI Galway hosted a charity event in aid of COPE Galway and St. Vincent de Paul.

In order to participate in the event, students had to turn up in their Xmas Pyjamas/jumper, armed with a donation of at least €20 for COPE Galway (their charity of choice), plus an item for the St Vincent de Paul Christmas hamper.
In return they were treated to breakfast (sponsored by the Business School) and the opportunity to win from a range of spot prizes. They also benefited from a short learning input about the work of COPE and some tips on protecting personal well-being in times of stress.

The event was a huge success! Over 90 students and staff attended what turned out to be a fun-filled experience. The gathering raised almost €1,800 for COPE and filled 6 boxes with Christmas hamper items for SVP.

"I could not be prouder of our wonderful students" said Dr Curran, "all too often our young people are portrayed as selfish and demanding but we have managed to challenge that assumption."

"Remember that the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more." H. Jackson Brown Jr.

We are educating these students to become business professionals. This event focused on empathy, selflessness, and consideration of those less fortunate. What better lessons to take forward to the world of work!

The event was organised by Dr Deirdre Curran and her wonderful HR Stream Student reps – Eilish Murray, Paul O'Connor, Ciara Murphy, and Clodagh McDonald.
