ST VINCENT DE PAUL (SVP) APPOINTS NEW REGIONAL PRESIDENT IN NORTHERN IRELAND
(20th April 2026)
SVP has announced the appointment of Anne Irwin as NI Regional President, marking a new chapter of leadership grounded in a strong commitment to the Society’s mission.
A dedicated SVP member for 25 years, the Coleraine woman brings a deep understanding of the organisation’s work, alongside a clear vision for its future. Her appointment reflects both her longstanding service and her active contribution at Regional Board level, where she previously played a key role in supporting the delivery of SVP’s Strategic Plan.
Speaking on her appointment, Anne said: “I embrace the spirit of renewal as described by Blessed Frédéric Ozanam who said, ‘Do not be afraid of new beginnings. Be creative. Be inventive.’ I am truly honoured to take on this role and remain deeply committed to serving our members and those we support with dedication, compassion and integrity.”
As Regional President, Anne has pledged to continue prioritising the Society’s Strategic Plan, with a focus on membership development, supporting those facing impossible choices through Home Visitation, strengthening local Conferences across the Region and building on strong foundations while evolving to meet emerging needs.
Anne’s leadership experience includes her role as Area President until May 2024, where she was recognised for her approachable style, strong relationship-building, and commitment to collaboration. Among her key achievements was securing government funding to tackle fuel poverty, ensuring effective distribution and support for vulnerable communities across the borough and beyond.
A strong advocate for collaboration, Anne has mentored fellow leaders, supported local Conferences, and contributed to a range of Regional initiatives, including legal, property, and retail projects. She has also played an active role in organising and presenting at key SVP events.
Professionally, Anne brings extensive leadership experience from her role in senior management, further strengthening her ability to guide the organisation through both opportunities and challenges.
Reflecting on the responsibilities ahead, Anne added: “I fully understand the importance of this role. I will uphold its responsibilities with humility and respect, working side-by-side with our members. Change is inevitable, but together we will move forward with compassion, courage and unity.”
SVP is an international charity and the largest voluntary charity in Ireland. SVP members work in all communities to support people whatever their background, who are experiencing poverty and social exclusion, promoting self-sufficiency and working for social justice.
Last year SVP spent approximately £5.5 million to help those experiencing poverty in Northern Ireland, responding to tens of thousands of calls for assistance from members of the public.
