SVP Submission on the Development of the Priorities and Policy Programme for Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026
Ireland is due to assume Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026; in this submission, SVP proposes that Ireland use this Presidency to focus on social justice and on delivering a just transition. In both, the focus of Ireland's EU Presidency should be eradicating poverty. We provide specific recommendations on the EU Anti-Poverty Strategy, on income adequacy, housing and homelessness, disability, and targeting energy poverty. Overall, SVP recommends that marginalised voices and the voices of young people are foregrounded in EU Presidency events and policy discussions.
