Communities where people support each other, where those in need are helped and where the State sets a goal of social equality should be the ideal of Government, politicians, economic, business, trade union and voluntary organisations, according to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in the Spring edition of its quarterly journal, THE SVP BULLETIN, the magazine which is the voice of social justice in Ireland. Amongst the contributors is the Deputy First Minister in Northern Ireland, Martin McGuinness, who stresses the importance of all sides of communities working together.
The magazine expresses dissatisfaction with the treatment of people by Irish Water, challenges State regulators about their lack of protection of consumers, and highlights neglect of rural communities in the Republic and virtual abandonment of their needs by the Government. It also has contributions from Irish Rural Link and the MABS agency and a heart-rending personal story about the social effects.
