New initiative from the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP) in Drogheda

The Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP) is well known for its work of is bringing support, friendship and practical help to people who are going through tough times.    

With the Fleadh happening in Drogheda a local SVP Conference with the help of a local Comhaltas felt that it was a great opportunity to teach some children who would not normally have the opportunity  to learn to play musical instruments.

This has led to SVP and Comhaltas launching a musical instrument donation drive which was launched on Fleadh TV ast night.

To support the drive people in the Drogheda area are asked to donate musical instruments in good condition to SVP shops in the area and  in partnership with the local Comhaltas  

SVP will make sure that the instruments donated will go towards helping children who may wish to play a musical instrument but whose family may not be able to afford them.

Joe Sweeney, President of the SVP North East & midlands Region said; "Music builds imagination and intellectual curiosity and when introduced at an early age fosters a positive attitude towards study and learning. Music also develops the whole brain and fosters a child's creativity and of course above all else it brings joy and enrichment to a person’s life. We would like to thank Lolo Robinson and her team from Drogheda Comhaltas as well all our SVP members and supporters and the people of this great city of Drogheda and it's surrounding areas for their help and encouragement for the initiative”, he said.
