New SVP Vincent’s Charity Shop opens on Dorset Street

A charity shop buildingDublin’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Nial Ring officially opened  a new St. Vincent de Paul (SVP) shop, Vincent’s  at 59 Lower Dorset Street, Dublin 1. on Friday 10 August 2018.

This is the 41st Vincent’s shop in the SVP East region (Dublin, Kildare & Wicklow) and the 30th in Dublin. There are over 220 SVP shops throughout the country.

Volunteers are required for the new shop which is open from 9.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Saturday. According to the shop manager Linda Johnston with more volunteers the opening hours could be extended for the benefit of customers.

Vincent’s charity shops are a very important aspect of the service SVP provides. Not only do they provide people with new and lightly worn items at affordable prices, they also provide an income source for the Society, which is recycled directly back into the community.

Four people cutting a ribbonThe charity shops are managed by a small number of professionals, assisted by a large number of volunteers and by community employment trainees.

Local SVP Conferences can also provide people with Vincent’s Gift Tokens for clothing and furniture, which they can use in any of the shops.

The second-hand clothes and other items donated to Vincent's charity shops make a difference to people in need in their communities.
