SVP East Region launch virtual book scheme to mark World Book Day

The Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP) East Region (Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow) has launched a virtual book scheme to mark World Book Day (Thursday 7 March).

People can make a donation towards new books which SVP members will then distribute to children and families during home visitations.

A donation of €50 will fund 25 new books while a donation of €250 will fund 120 new books.

This online initiative is part of the SVP East Region's  WordPower project. The project aims to empower families, provide encouragement to parents and give opportunities to children and help them get school ready.

Brand new children’s books will be purchased and distributed by SVP members to encourage children in the families visited to begin enjoying books early.

The books will be for babies, children, pre teens and young adults and are for families to keep and share with others in their family or community.

Donations of new books can also be made by contacting the WordPower Team at wordpower.east@svp.ie.

WordPower is based on the concept that having more books at home when growing up, even if you don’t necessarily read more, improves educational outcomes.
