Regional President, Donal Kelly, takes the helm for SVP South West (Cork & Kerry)

Presentation by Donal Kelly (left), South West Regional President to David Holden (right), outgoing Cork Regional President.Donal Kelly hails from Lehamore, Beara, West Cork some 100 miles west of Cork city.  A strong community activist he has had a broad involvement over many years in community groups, GAA, IFA, Sporting and Festival organisations and has held senior positions in several of these organisations.  As an individual Donal has had an outstanding success rate in achieving solutions to client’s problems and is deeply committed to people, rural communities and the Society of St Vincent De Paul, especially those who find themselves in personal or financial difficulty. His firm belief and conviction is that justice and equality not only must prevail but must be seen to prevail for all and by all.

I am a people’s person which is why I set up St Finians Conference in Castletownbere in 2006 – We have a very active visitation Conference along with a youth conference. I have always had broad community involvement. The Society is great in promoting our youth to reach out to help others less fortunate in our community.

“There are hundreds of very committed members in our 140 Conferences throughout the expanded South West Region of counties Cork and Kerry from Dingle to Youghal,  Kinsale to Listowel who, week after week, unselfishly devote their time and energy voluntarily to SVP – To each of you let me say Thank you. Let’s continue together this wonderful,  wonderful work that has happened in Ireland for the past 170 years of SVP,  providing vital support in a non-judgemental way to individuals and struggling families in need in our communities.  As the saying goes:

Making a person smile can change the world, maybe not the whole world… but their world

As the evenings close in and the costs of school, fuel and utilities begin to bite our volunteers, once again,  will be out in force raising funds to help those in need through another winter.

Several key fundraising projects are coming up in the coming months such as our Annual SVP Flag Day,  Dunnes Stores Bag Packing weekend and our Annual Christmas Appeal .  Any person or group who would like to give a few hours of their time to help in any of these vital fundraising events or indeed to join as a voluntary  member would be most welcomed.  Just get in touch at… 021 494 3543 or Ellmarie@svpcork.ie

I am asking you as the new South West Regional President for your support and prayers, so together we face the challenges that inevitably are coming down the track.

I promise you my total commitment.”

Ni neart le cur le cheile

Donal F. Kelly

South West Regional President.
