UPDATE 3RD DEC: BIG RESPONSE TO SVP FLOOD APPEAL - BUT THERE IS A CONTINUING NEED FOR HELP

Back to Listing

28/11/2009

The gernerosity of people wishing to donate goods to help those effected by the floods has been tremendous. However as the needs vary from region to region the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is anxious to ensure that goods received are appropriate for each region. We are therefore asking those donating goods to telephone their local SVP shops or flood depots in advance to ensure that the goods being donated are required in that region.

Financial donations to the SVP general fund or direct to regional flood relief accounts
allow us to be flexible in responding to calls for assistance and providing support in the most appropriate way in each circumstance.

The large volume of calls from the public all over Ireland offering help for the areas effected by the flooding continues and fund-raising events are now being organised throughout the country (See reports from regions below)..

All those offering help are being directed to one of the options listed below under HOW TO HELP.

”This generous response to those in need has been very welcome and demonstrates the positive depth of community spirit in the country”, said SVP National President, Mairead Bushnell.

”Our volunteers in the areas most effected are extremely active working in association with other agencies. inhelping those who have been forced to leave their homes and those whose homes have been damaged.

“SVP Conferences in areas not effected by the flooding have been providing financial and other assistance to the areas which are suffering.
